The actor hopes that people take cancer seriously and tackle it in time.

Mexican actor Barbara Mori was expected to visit India to promote her movie to create awareness on cancer.

The actor had even confirmed that she intended to fly down to help garner interest in the movie, in which she speaks about her battle with cancer.

“Soon. I’m looking forward to coming down to India for my next big release 1 A Minute,” is what she had said during an interview last month. Though Barbara’s arrival in the city is still awaited, the actor says that opening up about presumably one of the most difficult phases of her life for people to watch was therapeutic and she wants to do her bit to create awareness about the disease.

“Generally, when one hears about cancer, the last thing that we think is that it can happen to us, and we think that we are immune to it, that we will never suffer from it. The importance of the film is that it raises consciousness about the disease and that it can happen to any of us. So, it is crucial that one periodically goes to the doctor to do a check-up, no matter who you are, simply because cancer does not discriminate. It can affect the poor and the rich, the young and the old in the same way. Talking about my illness has had a positive impact on me. It made me an enthusiastic champion for the cause. I want the world to know that if detected in time, this illness can be cured,” she says.

Barbara also adds that a positive outlook and support from family and friends are very important factors in helping a woman get through the effects of cancer.
