Benedict Cumberbatch honoured with 'Commander of Most Excellent Order of British Empire' by Queen Elizabeth

Actor Benedict Cumberbatch on Tuesday received 'Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire' (CBE) honour by England's Queen Elizabeth II. The 'Sherlock' actor has been felicitated with the honour, which is one rank below a knighthood, for his services to drama despite being just 38-year-old.

Speaking to BBC, the actor said that he feels privileged to be recognised this way. 

"It's fantastic, it's quite nerve-wracking, there is nothing really that prepares you for it....It's a unique occasion and I feel very privileged to be here and flattered to be recognised in this way."

The actor's wife Sophie Hunter accompanied him to the event. Benedict and Sophie became proud parents to a son in June, the same week when the announcement about CBE was made. Cumbertach had missed out on the Best Actor Academy Award to Eddie Redmanye in early 2015. 

There are reports that considering Cumberbatch is younger than other stars when they received the same accolade, there are rpeports that a few in the industry who are unhappy with the decision. Some reportedly have speculated that the announcement is more to do with his celebrity than his achievements.
