Music director Santhosh Narayanan came onto the music scene in 2012 and has created a name for himself quickly. His music is distinctive and he has introduced a lot of new sounds to Tamil film music. As he celebrates his birthday on 15 May, we look at some of his music that has elevated films to make it more appealing to the audience.
Soodhu Kavuum
Directed by Nalan Kumraswamy, this movie was one of the top five films of 2013. Santhsh won the Vijay Award for Best Background Score for this film which starred Vijay Sethupathi. The black comedy had exceptional music and even today is one of the most talked-about films in Tamil cinema.

Cuckoo
This film, directed by Raju Murugan, released in 2014 and though it was a small budget film, the storyline (the protagonist is visually-challenged) attracted the audience. The music for the film was considered one of the highlights and Santhosh won praise from the audience and critics. He won the Mirchi Award For Best Album of the Year for Cuckoo.

Jigarthanda
Directed by Karthik Subbaraj, this was a superhit film. The 2014 black comedy, Tamil crime thriller starred Siddharth and Bobby Simha in lead roles. Santhosh hit the right notes as the music for this movie was outstanding. The film picked up two National Awards while Santhosh won Vijay Award for Best Background Score.

Madras
This movie was director Pa Ranjith’s second one with Santhosh Narayanan. Madras is a revenge drama which won accolades not just for Karthi but also the music director. Santhosh once again proves his versatility and how he could compose music to different genres with ease.

Kabali
Kabali is definitely Pa Ranjith’s and Santhosh’s biggest film ever. Starring Superstar Rajinikanth, the teaser has already broken records on YouTube and is now the highest viewed Indian film teaser. The little BGM one heard in the teaser shows that Santhosh knows what people expect from a Rajinikanth film. Kabali will be a landmark in Santhosh’s career and the audio launch on May 30, will definitely prove his prowess yet again.
