In the 70s and 80s, Amitabh Bachchan and Rekha's affair had become the hottest piece of gossip in Bollywood. While for a particular period, there was a blanket ban issued on Big B, the press would often write scandalous stories about his liaison with Rekha and refer to him as 'lambuji' or 'angry old man'.
That was the time of gossip journalism. And one one hand, when Amitabh Bachchan vehemently denied having any connection with Rekha, the diva went ahead and gave some explosive and revealing details about her love for Big B.
She not only thanked him for changing her lifestyle and her ideology towards life in general but she had once recited a few lines in her interview. "I looked at you, you turned your face away. Why? You feel you are badly off, but can't you see my position is worse? There is deep hurt in your gaze, but can't you see that the wounds in my heart are deeper than your look?"
While many pointed at Big B, Rekha had meant those words for his wife Jaya Bachchan. Not just in another interview, she didn't stop from calling herself 'the other woman' in his life. "People say the wife is always one-up because she has the man. I say the 'other woman' is ten-up because the man wants her in spite of having a wife. It is not a question of what does Jaya have that I don't have. What does Jaya have that I have?" she had said.
Uh oh! Now you could imagine the state of affairs between the Bachchans and Rekha back then!
