Composer Shantanu Moitra was impressed by Shyam Benegal’s infectious energy reports Shridevi Keshavan

His music expresses a flavour that sifts into far-flung rich folk that our country has and fits it perfectly to suit the taste of today’s contemporary times.

The trademark style of stylishly weaving in raw but yet endearing tunes have consistently been flowing in through all his films.

While ‘Parineeta’ was a highpoint in Shantanu Moitra’s musical career, his recent ‘Laaga Chunari Mein Daag’ was not as striking though following a similar style of
composing.

The composer looks forward to his next project that’s already out- ‘Khoya Khoya Chand’- again brings the old world charm back to life. “I’m excited about ‘Khoya Khoya Chand’.

I want to know what people think of it. Right now it’s just that and one other project that I’m working on- a Shyam Benegal film,” reveals Shantanu.

The musician, who has been a Benegal follower was thrilled when asked to work on his next project.

Shantanu promises the film to be something to watch out for. “It’s a great mix of satire and comedy; something you don’t expect from Shyam Benegal. It’s very different from what he has been doing.

The film is titled ‘Mahadev’ and working with him was something I have been looking forward to for years now. He is like an institution,” says Shantanu adding that the vibrancy the director exudes is magnetic.

“It was great fun working with him. He is some 72 years old but the energy he possesses is worth admiring. He is in London one day, in India the next day and this why exactly he is what he is,” he says.

With one film on the verge of release and the other still in the process of recording, the composer is sure enjoying the company of people he is working with.
