Two weeks back, Pyaar ka Punchnama 2 released and went on to become one of the surprise hits of the season. And in due course of time, it might just get the 'superhit' tag as well. But while PKP 2 is on its way for a supremely successful run at the plexes, last week's much hyped Shahid Kapoor-Alia Bhatt starrer Shaandaar and this week's release Main aur Charles starring Randeep Hooda in the lead have suffered a huge blow at the box office.
Shaandaar failed to make good use of the national holiday and even a Dussehra could not save this film from being a colossal disaster, in sheer terms of finances. Even after eight days of its run, the film, despite being promoted so heavily and backed by prominent names, has only raked up around Rs 36.50 crore at the box office. That's quite a sad affair, we must admit! On its second Friday, Shaandaar's collections nose-dived to a terrible Rs 40-45 lakhs nett, which is a 95% drop from its opening day.
On the other hand, this week's much anticipated release and possibly the only prominent one- Main aur Charles- too failed to pack in a punch at the box office. With an opening around the Rs 1 crore mark, this movie missed the bull's eye by miles. Why? Because PKP 2, despite having released two weeks back collected the same amount on its third Friday.
With that, PKP 2 stands at a decent Rs 53 crore nett and is now closing in on the Rs 60 mark, which means it will have a great return on investment and might end up being a superhit film as well. On the contrary, PKP 2's surprise run at the plexes has definitely hindered the pace of Shaandaar as well as Main aur Charles, which have terrible figures that they can't even boast of!
