Gautam Rode is all for the dna ICan marathon which he says is an excellent initiative to spread awareness about fitness

I was an athlete during my schooldays. In the 10th and 11th grade, I was the zonal champion in the 100m race. After that, however, I haven't really participated in any competitions.

I think it's important for people to keep themselves fit and healthy. You can choose any form of workout - running, playing a sport, lifting weights or cardio. You should combine it with the right kind of food. In fact, 70 per cent of your fitness comes through a good diet and 30 per cent through exercises. Any kind of activity is paramount.

I lift weights and maintain my diet - more of proteins and less of carbs. I totally avoid spicy, oily or fattening food. Today, there is a lot of awareness about a healthy diet and if one is interested in being fit, information is available online.

The dna ICan marathon is an excellent initiative as it creates awareness about fitness. It doesn't matter if it is for men or women - the fact that it is for a cause makes it all the more laudable.

I would advise all the women who want to participate in the marathon to keep themselves hydrated throughout the run, especially since summer has begun. Don't stretch yourself. Each person knows their body the best, so maintain a pace that suits you. Do it for the spirit of being there and taking part. If you are not a regular runner, take it easy and enjoy yourself.
