Broken Flowers
Rating: ****

Here’s Jim Jarmusch’s engaging moral tale about an affluent 50-something businessman whose two passions are computers and women..but an anonymous letter arrives to inform him that he has an illegitimate son looking for him. Now, the ageing Don Juan returns to four of his previous girlfriends, in different cities, to determine who could be the mother of his son. Moving and understated, the film is often very, very funny and blessed with yet another first-rate, interiorised performance after Lost in Translation by Bill Murray. Grab this DVD.

You Stupid Man
Rating: *

Or should we say You Stupid Movie? A clunky actor called David Klumholtz, a passable actress called Milla Jojovich and the alluring Denise Richards team up in this not-so-ha-ha triangular comedy about an upcoming actor, his new love a TV sitcom actress, and a former mean-as-mean-can-be flame. The threesome goes through some tiresome gags and even more tiresome romantic dalliances. Forget it.
