What it's about?
A story again of two opposites. Sriram (Imran Khan) who likes the good life and Dia (Kareena Kapoor) who wants to do her bit and make a difference in society in her small way. It is love at first sight for him and she falls in love with him later. But differences drive them apart. Life goes on for a bit till he is all set to marry Vasudha (Shraddha Kapoor) and then he realises that maybe their love story is not over. He goes back in search of Dia and to woo her back. But she has moved on. Will he win her back?
What's hot?
Gori Tere Pyaar Mein belongs to the rom-com genre, so really you know the kind of film you have come to watch. You know the path it will follow. Girl meets boy, love happens, they separate and they come back together. But other than that, it is different. For starters this one isn't set in a college nor is it an office romance. Neither the characters nor the situations are the usual cliches. A romantic film is nothing without moments and this one has really sweet ones. My favorite one is when Sriram sings the Jo Bhi Main Kehna Chahoon song. Kareena Kapoor is always a delight to watch on screen and she is the soul of the film. Imran Khan is in his comfort zone and he pulls off his character's transformation from a vela youngster to a responsible fella quite easily and convincingly.
What's not?
What makes the film stand apart - it's unusual setting - is also what goes against it. The second half of the film, filmed in a village, gets dreary after a point and that's why will not be relatable to the crowd that consumes such films. Also, Dia could have been less made up. Her white hair, which Sriram points out is never really seen on screen. While her heart is in the right place, Dia's character at times comes across as superficial and needed more depth. Too serious for a rom-com - the second half. The two village songs should have been edited out as they add nothing to the film. It also needed a better supporting cast. Anupam Kher is over the top.
