What it about:

What is a David Dhawan film always about? This one is no different unabashed masala entertainer. Mindless but mazedaar. Of course this one is designed for his son Varun (Seenu) who falls in love with Sunaina (Illena). However a cop Angad (Arunoday) is obsessed with her and tries to devices a plan to drive them apart. Enter Ayesha (Nargis) who is the male version of Angad. Then they all find themselves under one roof and the comedy of errors begins.

What's good:

Main Tera Hero is a light-hearted entertainer, under two hours long which moves along at a brisk pace. Tushar Hiranandani has penned a mad script that will reel you in as soon as the credits end. TMH doesn't let you get bored even for a minute and keeps you entertained throughout. Things that are guaranteed to make you laugh are all vintage David Dhawan. Saurabh Shukla's detective act is hilarious. Anupam Kher repeating everything thrice (because he was born in the "waadiyaan" and he is used to echoes), Varun Dhawan's parody of Badtameez Dil and Salman Khan's 'cameo' as God. The  dialogues by Milap Zaveri are good but they begin to feel a tad heavy after a while. Every dialogue doesn't have to be in threes to be funny. The heroines have little to do but add glamour, which Nargis pulls that off effortlessly but her heavily accented Hindi is annoying. Illena plays the girl-next-door to perfection.  The film, for the large part, rests on Varun's shoulders and he carries it confidently. Whether is dancing, fighting or emoting, Varun was clearly born for this. If the industry was looking for a replacement for Govinda, then there isn't a better option than Varun. And papa ensures that by giving him the kind of film that made Chi Chi the sweetheart of the masses.

What's not:

It's outside the realm of reality. The college looks nothing like the one you went to. The Don is a bumbling fool. But you know that when you go to see a David Dhawan film that it's a Bollywood fantasy film. Rajpal Yadav does the same role he has done in a million films before. While Arunoday Singh does he fair job, he somehow seems miscast for the role. Shakti Kapoor's guest appearance does nothing for the film.

What to do:

In the mood for a madcap film? Main Tera Hero is the answer.
