What's it about
An animated version of one of our most read and revered epics in Indian literature, Mahabharat 3D is a feeble attempt to use technological wizardry to create interest in cinema goers. With an ensemble that boasts names of Amitabh Bachchan, Anil Kapoor and Vidya Balan a lot was expected. But this poorly put together exercise fails despite trying hard to recreate some of the most dramatic chapters from this tale. Unlike Ramayana, Mahabharat is a huge in its canvass and has more characters than perhaps all of our folk tales put together.
What's hot
The only saving grace is the sincerity with which the cast has dubbed for their parts. Bachchan sounds like Bheeshma while Vidya does a commedable Draupadi.
What's not
A case of too many cooks spoiling the broth, the artists have gone wrong on the drawing board. The characters except for a few are made to look like the actors giving the voice over. So watching Anupam Kher as Shakuni or Sunny Deol with his bulging biceps as Bheem turns out to be quite a comic affair. There is no attention paid to detail and most of the scenes look hurried and rushed. Also 3D doesn't play an important part in making the film any more enjoyable.
What to do
Despite the big names associated with Mahabharat 3D the film turns out to be a no show in its effort to entertain the audience.
