Film: Veera (Kannada)
Director: Ayyappa P Prasad
Cast: Malashree, Ashish Vidyarthi, Komal, Rahul Dev, Mukul Dev, C R Simha
Score: 35%
Verdict: Ayyo Rama!
There’s no getting around the bush. Veera for all its hype disappoints big time. In fact, going by the number of action scenes, dialogues and the pedestrian screenplay, it would seem that director Ayyappa P Prasad has taken the Kannada film-viewing audience for granted. There’s nothing else that can explain why this film was made. To add to your woes, the film also lacks any semblance of romance or humour. This is not to discredit actor Komal who tries his best to tickle your funny bones; sadly, the effort comes off looking absurd and unjustified.
Veera’s plot revolves around Veeralakshmi alias Veera (Malashree) an orphan who is compelled to avenge her brother’s murder. Circumstances compel police commissioner Garudachar (Ashish Vidyarthi) to adopt Veera. Meanwhile, home minister (C R Simha) becomes a kingpin in circulating counterfeit currency notes.
He joins hands with RD (Rahul Dev) to extend the supply of counterfeit currency notes across the state. The Chief Minister assigns Garudachar to nab the gang behind the counterfeit currency notes racket. Not surprisingly, Veera joins with her foster father to take on the bad boys. The rest of the movie is about how she goes about vanquishing the villains.
Now to get to the most importance aspect of the film, lead actress Malashree. Suffice to say that while the ‘Action Queen’ gives her best shot (pun intended) to retain her status, the director’s inept handling of the megaphone plays spoilsport. Quite a few scenes, including the ones where Malashree wears a sari, Iyengar mami style or the one where she pretends to be Komal’s lover, fail to create any impact.
The climax scene, as is de riguer in most action films, has a number of cars and other vehicles flying around, obviously aimed at boosting Malashree’s image. As villains, actors Rahul Dev and Mukul Dev have tried their best. There’s nothing to revel about Hamsalekha’s music.
Watch the movie if you are an action-movie junkie who doesn’t care much about a script or story.
