In 2001, when Aamir Khan made Lagaan, director Ashutosh Gowariker and he chose TV actress Gracy Singh to play the demure village belle opposite him. Now, for his upcoming biopic Dangal on Mahavir Singh Poghat, Aamir has got another small-screen star Sakshi Tanwar to play his wife. Here's looking at the similarities between the two actresses.
Gracy Singh made her debut in the family drama Amaanat, which was about a strict disciplinarian father Lahori Ram and his seven daughters. Gracy played the chulbuli second daughter Dinky who matures as the serial progresses and she gets married. The popular serial ran for five years.
Sakshi Tanwar already had a few serials to her credit before she bagged the family saga Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii. Her portrayal of Parvati, a strong, traditional woman with Indian values and beliefs made her a household name and the character iconic. The serial was on air eight years. Her most recent show was Bade Acche Laggte Hain
Both Gracy and Sakshi have a classic Indian face. They dress soberly, look sweet and simple. They fit perfectly into the role of the traditionally coy Indian women, who staunchly support their husbands.
It was when Gracy was doing Amanat that she bagged Lagaan. She quit the serial to concentrate on the film.
Though Sakshi has done a couple of films like Coffee House and Mohalla Assi in which she plays Sunny Deol's wife, the film has got stuck as it is embroiled in a controversy. Bagging a role opposite Aamir in Dangal is her big break in Bollywood.
