While the humour in many films has fallen flat, there are a few that struck the right chord.

Usually considered a taboo in India, filmmakers have often tried different things with while dealing with the subject of sex on screen. While some directors glorified sex in their films and in an attempt to make an entertaining film ended up objectifying women, there have been few directors who have calculatingly used  'sex' in a more comical manner.

For years Bollywood has experimented with sex comedies. While the humour in many films has fallen flat, there are a few that struck the right chord. Here's a list of 5 sex comedies that were actually were funny and entertaining—

Shaukeen

Released in 1982, this madcap comic caper featured three lecherous old men trying to get lucky with a beautiful girl. Stellar performances coupled with sharp comedy, Basu Chatterjee made full use of the powerful cast which boasted of heavyweight names like Utpal Dutt, Ashok Kumar, AK Hangal playing the three old men, Mithun Chakraborty and Rati Agnihotri as the love interest. This film was remade in Hindi recently and  had an averagely performance at the box office. But the original film remains laugh out loud funny even today.

Anubhav

Using sex subtly in the background, Kashinath made a film that is remembered even today for its comical elements. Revolving around the main characters of a village belle and her husband, who tries to get intimate with her and fails, Anubhav was another sex comedy much ahead of its time and age. Though Padmini Kolhapure finds it hard to reciprocate to husband Shekhar Suman's romantic feelings, it's the story of how her character Ganga undergoes a metamorphosis after she sees her husband getting intimate with another beautiful woman.

Masti

One of the most loved comedy of errors, Masti had three sex-starved horny men, played by Riteish Deshmukh, Aftab Shivdasani and Vivek Oberoi, fed up with their ghar ki dal chawaal (we mean their wives!) and embark on a mission to try out bahar ka biryani (have an affair, silly!). The three end up having an affair with the same woman. When she gets murdered all the three are framed for the crime. Funny and hilarious, Masti is one film you can still enjoy watching with your old friends, with a tub of popcorn. Then came, Grand Masti, the sequel - replete with loud dialogues, sexual innuendos and crass double meaning jokes- trying too hard to be funny. Grand Masti might have rained crores at the box office but we still love the simplicity of Masti. Inder Kumar, are you reading this?

Kya Kool Hai Hum

Ekta Kapoor first ventured into this territory with Kya Kool Hai Hum. Another comedy of errors, the film too had its sexual moments- whether it was Tusshar Kapoor pouring a bottle of cold water in his pants (don't get dirty now!)  or the portrayal of most of the men in the film as perverts. The characters in the film went all out while keeping in mid the limits of the film and their characters. This film had a sequel Kya Super Kool Hai Hum. But can we just let that pass, please?

Hunterrr

One of the most refreshing sex comedies to have been made in recent times, Hunterrr traces the life of a sex addict and his trysts with various women through different stages of his life. Funny and hilarious, Hunterrr had some sexual scenes but the film scored high because, unlike other most sex comedies in Bollywood, it did not try to be too preachy. Hunterrr also did not objectify women as props and make them appear as mere eye candy, which was a refreshing change. Rather, Radhika Apte, Sai Tamhankar and the other women characters came across as strong, relatable characters. Gulshan Devaiah delivered a powerful performance and the director hit a home run!
