Veteran actors Jeremy Irons and Brendan Gleeson are set to star in "Assassin's Creed", the movie adaptation of the popular video game franchise about a deadly rivalry between two secret societies, through the ages.

Michael Fassbender is starring as Callum Lynch, who relives the adventures of a lethal ancestor in 15th-century Spain and faces threats in the present day, reported Entertainment Weekly.

Marion Cotillard co-stars and Justin Kurzel is directing from a script by Bill Collage, Adam Cooper, and Michael Lesslie.

Irons will play Cotillard's father while Gleeson plays Fassbender's father.

The film is slated to release on December 21, 2016.
