After setting the bar pretty-high with their brand of humour in web series such as Pitchers and Permanent Roommates, there were loads of expectations from TVF’s latest offering, Humorously Yours. And if the first episode of their fourth web series that came out today is anything to go by, then the internet loving junta is in for a treat.

COMMERCIAL BREAK

With stand-up comedy being the flavour for the past couple of years, exploring what goes on in the life of stand-up comedians is worthy of a story. And that’s where the first episode nails it on the head. The struggler in the field, Vipul, with his ‘average content’ wants to make it in the big league. He is often not included in festivals, such as the Dubai Comedy Fest because, as his colleague Varun Thakur points out – he doesn’t have a manager. However, even getting a manager, as is proved later, isn’t the end of the struggle either.

It’s all conveyed through humour but one just has to read between the lines to realise how difficult it is to get a break in this field. The on-stage moments in the show provide for plenty of laughs, even as we wonder how Vipul will manage to score bigger shows.

But it’s not as if the show is all about the business of stand up. Vipul’s personal life and his light-hearted banter with his wife Kavya, played by Rasika Dugal, is a realistic take on urban relationships, where the wife is often the breadwinner without egos getting into the middle. Whether it’s their healthy banter on feminism and sexism or deciding who will fire the bai, the couple provide an insight into modern day relationships.

The first episode of Humorously Yours has set the ball rolling and we can’t wait to see whether the content lives up to viewer expectations in the coming episodes.
