Sai Deodhar, who was missing in action for three years, will be back on the telly with the upcoming Udaan, the promos of which are already on air. The actress, best remembered for her role as a pilot in Saara Akaash will be playing a mother to a six-year-old girl in Udaan. And Sai is only too happy to play a mother, now that she has a three-year old daughter. "I had taken a conscious break from acting to take care of my baby girl. Now she is grown a little, so I can manage both. Also, Udaan appealed to me because it's not structured as a typical saas-bahu serial. When Gurudev Bhalla (producer) narrated the story to me, I had tears in my eyes. I am may not have reacted the same way earlier, but now that I am a mother I was completely moved," says Sai.
The serial focusses on the mother-daughter bond in the backdrop of the girl being contracted to bonded labour even before she is born! Says Sai, "The germ of the story is very real - it is inspired from a real incident - and that makes it even more sad. Also, while acting with children, it was difficult to detach myself. I would see my daughter in every child." And, though it's a mother's role, Sai says that there are many dimensions to her. "She is not always goody-goody, she gets angry and aggressive with her daughter but later feels bad and apologises to her, sometimes when she is frustrated, she takes it out on her child. I must say all this came naturally to me," smiles the actress.
Last year, Sai along with her actor husband Shakti Anand had produced a serial Mujshe Kuch Kehti Hai - Yeh Khamoshiyan, which went off air within three months of its launch. Ask her what went wrong and she just suffices with, "When a show doesn't do well, I guess everything goes wrong." She is now gearing up for the release of her Marathi film Sata Lota... Pan Sagla Khota that she has produced.
