Sangita Ghosh debuted as the younger sister of Divya Seth in ‘Darar’ a decade ago and shot to fame later as the heroine in ‘Des Mein Nikla Hoga Chaand’. Interestingly she was called Pammi in both these soaps. She says, “It’s sheer coincidence that I was given the same name. In fact, I wasn’t the first choice for ‘Des...’. So there was no calculated move. But I loved played Pammi twice over and did not face any identity crisis.”
Sangita is now playing Priyanka in Ravi Chopra’s mega serial ‘Virasat’ which will be on air in March. Refusing to divulge details about the show she says, “I have been asked not to disclose the storyline. All I can say is that it is a story of two warring families. The son and daughter of two families fall in love and get married. But it’s not a love story. The show also highlights eight other crucial characters.” She adds, “It does have shades of the famous American soap ‘Dallas’.”
Recalling her days as ‘Nach Baliye’ host, Sangita chirps, “It was a nerve -wracking experience. But Shabbir (Ahluwalia) and I had a blast. I even got to dance. There was a lot of pressure as all participants were friends and colleagues. So we had to be politically correct. Besides the judges were celebrities. Hence we had to be extra cautious.”
Portraying romance comes easily to Sangita, “I love to enact romance. I am comfortable looking into my co-actor’s eyes and saying mushy lines. I feel fortunate that I can do on TV what actors do in films.” So is there romance in her life too? Sangita dodges this one, “Right now I am romancing ‘Virasat’! Seriously, one doesn’t plan these things though I would love to be romantically involved.”
Has she given any thought to marriage? Ghosh shoots a surprise, “I have often joked with Shabbir that in the next season of ‘Nach Baliye’ we should enter a contractual marriage to spice up the proceedings!”
