The actor Sharman Joshi reveals how he learnt to keep his cool, thanks to a talk with his mom.

Actor Sharman Joshi admits that he used to be a hot-headed guy. And he looks up to film-maker Rajkumar Hirani for inspiration when it comes to staying cool.

The actor, who’s pairing with actor Aamir Khan on screen spells runway hit each time, as seen in Rang De Basanti and 3 Idiots, is finally able to control his temper, albeit after years of practice.

“I was very hot tempered, but I’ve worked on it. I’d get angry very quickly. Then one day, my mom sat me down and told me that it’s not worth losing your cool, and ultimately you end up feeling bad,” recalls Joshi, who has recently done a soft drink ad on anger management.

Reminiscing about his college days, Joshi says that his talk with his mom was one of those life-changing moments. “I comprehended what she said. I remember I started practising how not to lose my cool. It’s a slow process. But I think I’ve been successful, as it takes quite a bit for me to get angry now,” he laughs, adding that he’d rather express his anger with maturity today.

“But I’ve seen people who are so sorted, so calm, one of them is Raju Hirani. He works under so much pressure and he handles it all so well. I look up to him,” says Joshi.

The actor agrees that it’s easy to get exasperated about little things.

“But the trick lies in how you control the first five seconds of anger. You face problems on a day-to-day basis, so anger is a natural reaction. I speak to myself a lot whenever I get a chance — while driving a car or when I’m alone. At the end of each day, you need to talk to yourself.

It’s not healthy to bottle up your emotions,” advises the actor, who was last seen in Allah Ke Bandey, and is now readying up to
start shooting for Ferrari Ki Sawaari.
