Imax Dome to shut shop

It is the world’s largest Dome theatre and a landmark for movie lovers. However, chances are it will be history soon.

Dwindling profits with a host of other factors have compelled Imax Dome in Mumbai to shut shop.

While the decision is taken, when exactly the Dome will stop screening is yet to be decided. “The losses have compelled us to shut Dome. However, we don’t plan to stop screening immediately as we are currently running ‘Spider-Man 3’ which is still attracting good crowd,” says COO of Adlabs, Tushar Dhingra.

Though the Dome was a unique innovation, many blame the wrong location.  However, Dhingra doesn’t agree. “ Multiplexes in Ghatkopar and nearby areas  are doing well,” he explains.

Plans in the pipeline suggest converting the Dome into a 35 mm single screen theatre that will continue to show movies like any other theatre.
