Rock festivals and concerts have surely upped the popularity of western music in the country with bands giving a thumbs up to perform for Indian fans.

"India has so much love and enthusiasm towards Rock music, it was like we are playing in our country," Sacha Dunable, guitarist and vocalist of the Intronaut, the latest group to perform here told PTI at the recently concluded Seagram's Fuel Great Indian Rock Festival.

Gigs by rock legends like Iron Maiden and The Scorpions has surely boosted the morale of bands and fans alike, as Intronaut played to an audience of 2,500 rock lovers.

"I don't know about people or their stereotypes about India, but I find the country much modern. People are so nice here and they are crazy about music," drummer, Danny Walker said.

The post-metal band which hails from Los Angeles, California, also performed in Kolkata and feels the country has what it takes to rock and roll.

"It was an awesome experience to play in Kolkata. The fans here are also energetic, I love them," Joe Lester, the bassist of the band said.

In fact, Intronaut walks a fine line between psychedelic brutality, captivating hooks and and devastating yet unpredictable time changes, something that has infused a breath of Indian sounds by including tabla as one of the instruments in their performances.

"Dave Timnic is the guy who plays tabla in our band. There is a fusion of Indian music and heavy metal, particularly in one of our tracks called The Reptilian Brain which we performed here," Dunable said.

I learned tabla when I was in India six to seven years back; Alok Dutta was my teacher in Bangalore and it was fun learning the instrument," Dave Timnic, the percussionist-cum-tabla player and guitarist of the band said.

The band which has completed its second album Prehistoricisms has promised more headbanging for music lovers and hopes to collaborate with Indian artists in the future.

"We would be really happy to play with an Indian musician, we love India. I have heard about Zakir Hussain; and he's a very good tabla player, I would love to play with him," Timnic said.
