There are a number of film stars in India known for their charitable work and philanthropic activities. Salman Khan’s foundation Being Human has helped thousands while Sonu Sood has been on ground since the pandemic helping the underprivileged. Yet, the mammoth efforts of these Bollywood stars pale in comparison with one south star, who has been India’s most charitable star for years now.
India’s most charitable superstar
Mahesh Babu, the superstar from Telugu cinema, is arguably the most charitable actor in India. The actor is known for his charity work as much as he is known for delivering some of the biggest entertainers in Indian cinema. In a career that has spanned over two decades, Mahesh has amassed a considerable amount of wealth, which he uses more for charity purposes than anything else. As per reports, the actor donates 30% of his annual income, which comes out to Rs 25-30 crore ever year currently.
Mahesh Babu has also associated himself with several NGOs, a few of which he runs himself. One of these organisations is linked with Rainbow Children Hospital, where he helps provide free medical treatment to poor kids. Till date, the actor has provided essential heart surgery to over a thousand children through the initiative. The actor has also adopted two villages (including his ancestral village), where he has provided all the infrastructure, including roads, electricity, school, and health facilities.
Mahesh Babu’s film career
After beginning his career as a child artiste in 1979, Mahesh Babu worked in small roles in many films over a decade. He returned as a lead actor at the age of 24 in 1999, achieving stardom with Murari and Okkadu in the early 2000s. After a career setback that saw him take a three-year break in 2007, Mahesh returned with hits like Dookudu and Businessman. His recent blockbusters include Maharshi and Sarkaru Vaari Paata. The actor is currently filming SS Rajamouli’s next, billed as India’s most expensive film till date.
