Shah Rukh Khan's comments on religious intolerance had sparked a nationwide debate with political leaders turning against the actor, slamming him for his comments. But on the other side, there was a crowd of people who maintained that SRK had said no wrong and was right in expressing his opinions on the subject. Ditto for Aamir Khan. The PK star who recently made his opinions on the same public grabbed headlines as his statements too were condemned by political parties.
Not just political parties, many Bollywood stars too slammed Aamir for his comments. Aamir claimed that at one point, his wife Kiran Rao was contemplating leaving the country for the amount of intolerance meted out in India today. This definitely did not go down well with many and posters of Aamir were burnt.
Amidst all this hullabaloo, we met Akshay Kumar, who's gearing up for the release of his netx film Airlift, which is based on the realistic tale of the biggest human evacuation in the world. Ask him to talk about the issue and he hits back, "Don't try to get any quote out of me because I won't say anything."
Akshay who has always been a politically correct individual refused to comment on the immediate backlash that his contemporaries Aamir and SRK have faced or are facing for their statements on the topic. When he was told that Aamir has claimed that he even thought of leaving India, Akshay snubbed reporters and said, "I don't know who has got what problems. All I can say is I'm proud to be an Indian."
Now this has definitely got us thinking. Akshay is usually reticent but he does put forward his opinions in a rather meticulous manner, in order to avoid courting any controversy. But this time, Akshay's silence has definitely caught our eyes. Has the tremendous backlash against SRK and Aamir forced him to turn deaf to the ongoing happenings here?
