Popular Irish musical siblings Cora and Breda Smyth are on their first trip to India.

Their joyous approach towards music complements the fact that they hail from a country that thrives on music. One of Ireland’s most-loved musical duo, siblings Cora and Breda Smyth are currently on a countrywide tour of India and cannot be more excited about a country as traditionally rich as their own.

Says Cora, “It is difficult to believe that we are finally in India, a land we have heard about so much. Classical Indian music has always caught our attention and it is beautiful to finally experience the country.” The doctors-turned-musicians who boast of a strong family musical background have won over forty All-Ireland musical titles, with Cora having been nominated for the 2001 Grammy Awards for a collaborative album in the World Music category.

However, apart from being nominated, what really makes them feel glad is that Irish music is being recognised worldwide. “To hail from USA or any other commercially popular country definitely makes it easier for artistes to popularise their music. We are glad that our efforts have made it possible, despite the fact that Ireland is yet opening up to experimental music,” adds Breda.

Nevertheless, though they realise that most traditional music is being clubbed with electronic sounds, they assert that Irish beats will always find its own space. “We love to experiment also, but we are here because of our rich culture and we will never forego that,” ends Cora.
