Haseena and Mahesh Jethmalani became proud parents to twin boys at 10.43 am yesterday. The fashion designer underwent a caesarean section at Breach Candy Hospital. “Both mother and babies are doing well. Mahesh is beaming…words can’t express his joy!” revealed family friend and Haseena’s business partner designer Leetu Shivdasani. The couple already have a daughter — 10-year-old Serena.
A few days before her delivery Haseena candidly confessed to After Hours that she and Mahesh had sought treatment to help her get pregnant. “I had a medical problem because of which I couldn’t conceive a second time. So I underwent IVF under Dr Firuza Parikh. She is truly a wonder woman,” she revealed. Having gone through the ordeal, the fashion designer feels it is important for more women to talk about the problem. “Unfortunately, a stigma is still attached to infertility. And it’s always the woman who gets blamed; who has to suffer the wrath of her in-laws and disappointment of her husband,” she rued, adding, “We shouldn’t be ashamed of getting medical help, especially since the treatments available today are so advanced.”
However, she admitted she didn’t want to talk about her condition while undergoing the treatment. “That’s because I didn’t want any kind of pressure, neither did I want sympathy in case it didn’t work out,” she explained.
Fortunately for her, she’s had the full support of her family, especially Mahesh. “I’m emotionally very dependent on him,” she said, “Even when Serena was born I only wanted to be with him. This time, too, I want him to be around when I’m in pain or hormonally imbalanced!” she laughed, adding, “I’m not too sure he would be happy about this.”
