Jack Black death hoax: Hacker uses band Tenacious D's Twitter account to prank tweet

Tweets of the actor's death were doing the rounds on Twitter with no official confirmation for several hours.

Comedy rock duo Tenacious D has claimed that its official Twitter account, which posted about the band's singer Jack Black's death, had been hacked.

Fans of the American actor-singer went into a state of frenzy when Tenacious D's Twitter account wrote, "I'm sad to officially annouce [sic] the death of Jack Black at the age of 46, rest in peace brother."

It followed it up with the hashtag, "#RipJackBlack," reported Daily Telegraph. "It is with a heavy heart I am to announce that Jack Black passed away last night at 3:37am. The cause of death is yet unknown," the account added. Later tweets revealed it was all a joke.

"Calm down guys! It's just a prank bro. The Legend is still alive, it is okay guys. Just a meme bro," the hacker wrote on the account.

The band later tweeted,

The band's guitarist John Konesky later revealed the Twitter account had been hacked.

A Twitter user also shared a Snapchat of Black taken with Diplo in Germany where Tenacious D had been performing at the Rock am Ring festival.
