Janet Jackson became the star of the show with the "ultimate icon" title at the 2015 BET Awards that kicked off on June 28.
Receiving the award, the 49-year-old singer, who recently made her comeback after seven years, said that it has been a very long journey to this moment, reported Us magazine. The Escapade hit-maker added that she is grateful to her family, friends and fans who have always supported and loved her.
Some of the prominent winners, who went home with the "silver star" trophy are Sam Smith for Best New Artist, Nicki Minaj for Best Female Hip-Hop Artist, Beyonce for Best Female R&B/Pop Artist and Chris Brown for Best Male R&B/Pop Artist.
The awards that were established in 2001 by the Black Entertainment Television network, is the industry's way to celebrate African Americans and other minorities in music, acting, sports and other fields of entertainment.
