Show host Jimmy Kimmel (2nd L) along with Television Academy Chairman and CEO Bruce Rosenblum (L), executive producer Don Mischer (2nd R) and television personality Guillermo Rodriguez roll out the red carpet during preparations for the 68th Emmy Awards at Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California U.S., September 14, 2016.

68th Primetime Emmy Awards will take place on Sunday

Preparations for the 68th Emmy Awards have been underway and host Jimmy Kimmel helped to get the red carpet unrolled at the Microsoft Theatre. It was no small task, because this year's red carpet was the longest in the history of the award show.

"The reason we have the longest red carpet in history, and that is pretty exciting, it's because this is going to be the longest Emmy show in history," Kimmel joked.

Actually, the 1,325 foot long red carpet was supposed to be symbolic of the rapidly growing television landscape.

While the record-long red carpet wasn't expected to cause any problems, Kimmel said should any security issues arise, he would handle them himself.

"Well you know, on Dancing with the Stars someone ran out and interrupted the show when Ryan Lochte was dancing so if something like that happens I won't wait for security. I will beat them to a pulp myself," Kimmel quipped.

Inside the theatre, stagehands were hard at work on erecting the sweeping circular set around a giant Emmy statue. The stage has been accented with silver globes, sculptures and textured walls.

The place cards positioned on chairs in front of the glittery get-up illustrated that Tina Fey, Sarah Paulson, Bryan Cranston and Kerry Washington will have the best seats in the house: front-row centre. Other nominees with front-row seat assignments include Viola Davis, Tony Hale, Anthony Anderson, Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright. However, not Beyonce. The pop superstar, who is nominated for outstanding direction for the HBO special for her visual album Lemonade, is assigned to the second row behind Liev Schreiber.

Catch all excitement as the 68th Primetime Emmy Awards will be telecast LIVE on Star English Network in India on September 19th at 4:30 AM with a repeat telecast at 8 PM!
