Indian singer lent his voice to the Chris Pratt-Jennifer Lawrence starrer, Passengers

Coming fresh off applause for the well-received Humma Humma (OK Jaanu) and Kaabil Hoon Main (Kaabil), singer Jubin Nautiyal is now singing a song composed by Sukumar Dutta, that will play on Indian screens at the beginning of the film, which releases in India January 6, 2017. We caught up with Jubin to ask him about the track, whose music video recently released on the Sony LIV platform...

Ask him how he came to be on board Aadat and he shares, “I dubbed a song long back for the track. Sukumar asked for a meeting regarding a Sony project. He had some compositions he wanted me to try out. I found it to be different from what I had been doing at the time and so, I signed on. I worked pretty hard on making his songs mine. I was excited about trying out new things and different approach to my voice. The genre of the song is rock. The brief I was given was to imagine myself on a big stage, guitar in hand, rocking away. I just had to play the rockstar in my head for the song.”
He says the news of the song making it to the soundtrack came to him as a shock. “I had no idea the platform was going to be such a big one. I realise now, that my voice will be used to promote a big Hollywood film. I congratulated Sukumar first and celebrated with my friends.”
He considers his journey so far as everything destiny has willed for him and humbly iterates that his focus is to concentrate on the performance in his upcoming songs (he features on the Jolly LLB soundtrack, out in January).
Incidentally, it was reported that rapper Raftaar was the voice of Aadat (he does feature in the video), which is weird considering it’s being called a rock song. It has now come to light that the rapper will only sing a segment of the song and that he was a last-minute but crucial inclusion. Composer Sukumar Dutta told us, “Jubin was always the first choice for Aadat, even when I was pitching the track. Raftaar was included on the track much later. Shirley Setia also features on the track”
But it’s all good. Jubin’s track with Badshah was well-received. And now, we’re sure this one with Raftaar will also make all the right noises!
