Justin Bieber Concert: Did media persons MISBEHAVE with PRs at the venue?
"Every story has two sides and it's important to understand the real story before slandering any person or agency," PR company managing the Bieber concert in India reveals what ACTUALLY happened at the concert!
It was recently reported that some media persons were barred from entering the venue alleging lack of organisation by the PR team of Dream N Hustle Media during the Justin Bieber Concert at Navi Mumbai. An IANS report had stated that after keeping the media persons waiting for about two hours in the sweltering heat, it was announced that, among the several agencies, both Indian and international, only select media representatives would be able to enter.
No reason was forthcoming from the concert promoters White Fox India or their PR agency Dream N Hustle, added the IANS report. Now Jashoda Madhavji, Founder, Dream N Hustle Media has sent out a clarification that states, "Contrary to what has been largely reported by the members of the press, it is important to understand two sides of the story for any ethical form of journalism. Most of the reports have been misconstrued without any thorough research or hindsight. While any large format show will entail teething problems there has to be a spirit of mutual understanding and co-operation."
In an official statement that was sent by DNH Media, the following points were clarified:
Clear demarcation
The media accreditation process is always is a lengthy process and hence media gates were opened at 2 pm for the press entries. No form of decorum was maintained by the press during the accreditation process in spite of there being a two-hour window reserved only for press accreditation. All journalists and editors received the Platinum passes to watch the show while all photographers and videographers were given red carpet bands.
From 18 to 9
The credibility of no press member was questioned by the PR agency whilst determining the front stage pit access which was purely controlled and governed by the international agency. A total of 18 submissions were made to the global management out of which only nine media houses were approved in spite of repeated efforts by the PR agency to sanction the remaining equally important media houses. In the past, when I have personally handled pop concerts like Akon, Bryan Adams, Pitbull, LMFAO, the press process has been seamless on all counts since videography and photography inside the performance arena was never an issue.
Misbehaving media
A majority of the members of the press were not well behaved with female members of my team and were using foul language and this kind of behaviour needs to be questioned. A lot of celebrities on the red carpet also noticed this and raised a concern. In a situation where the security of any female employee is at a risk, any person in the right frame of their mind would need to use some form of authority to ensure decorum.
Rules in place
At a time when the occurrence of the entire show rested upon no the photography-videography rule, it was a natural decision to not compromise the show that has cost the promoters (White Fox India) close to 4 million USD over post-event press coverage. A mail was circulated to all key editors on this rule prior to the show. Sixty minutes prior the show, drones and professional video cameras were spotted in the arena. As instructed by the international agency and the promoters, an announcement was made by the emcee to vacate the stadium as it was not approved as a rule, globally. In fact, internal photographers were also asked to hand over their equipment at the commencement of Bieber's act
Why the silence
To all the members of the press who may feel offended please do accept my humble apologies but every story has two sides and it's important to understand the real story before slandering any person or agency. While I understand that everyone has a job to execute please understand the PR agency was not able to furnish inside information as there was protocol of 'no press information' to be adhered to, during the visit.
Issues WILL be addressed
I also understand there were quite a few on-ground logistical issues with regards to arrangements being made for the members of the press which will be addressed and discussed with the promoters to ensure no inconvenience is caused in the future.
