Headlined by Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, and Deepika Padukone in the leading roles, the epic dystopian sci-fi action drama Kalki 2898 AD has opened to a thunderous response at the box office. The Nag Ashwin directorial has now become the highest-grossing film of the year within just three days of its release.
As per the entertainment tracking portal Sacnilk, Kalki 2898 AD had earned Rs 267.50 crore at the global box office within first two days of its release. The makers had shared the two-day gross box office at Rs 298.50 crore. Despite the India vs South Africa T20 World Cup final on Sunday, the Nag Ashwin film saw packed theatres on Saturday as well.
As per the trade insiders, Kalki 2898 AD has grossed in excess of Rs 100 crore on its third day of release taking its total beyond Rs 370 crore. The film's makers are saying the three-day global box office figure could be over Rs 400 crore. This means that Kalki 2898 AD has gone past Hrithik Roshan, Deepika Padukone-starrer aerial action thriller Fighter (Rs 358 crore globally) to become the highest grossing film of the year in just three days.
Talking about its domesic box office collection from Sacnilk, Kalki 2898 AD collected Rs 152.90 crore in India in its first two days. On June 29, the film added Rs 67.1 crore and took its three-day domestic earnings to Rs 220 crore. Out of this, the maximum earnings have come from the Telugu version, which is Rs 126.90 crore.
Inspired by Indian mythology, Kalki 2898 AD is touted to be the most expensive film in Indian cinema with a whopping budget of Rs 600 crore. Apart from Prabhas, Amitabh, Deepika and Kamal, the much-awaited film also stars Brahmanandam, Shobana, Anna Ben, and Saswata Chatterjee in pivotal roles.
