Director Rupesh Paul, whose Kamasutra 3D, starring Sherlyn Chopra in the lead, is still running for the Oscars, says the film is "underestimated or even misread" as a B-grade soft porn but on contrary it is the best ever epic story.

Kamasutra 3D is in contention for the 86th Academy Awards in categories of best motion picture, original score and original songs.

The nominations will be announced live on January 16, 2014 and the award ceremony will take place on March 2.

"The movie has been underestimated or even misread as a B-grade soft porn after casting Sherlyn Chopra in a major role. Regardless of all these, we have made a movie of international standards and with the best technophilia available at this moment," Rupesh told PTI.

He said the movie was pre-sold in all international territories at almost double the price of Chennai Express and Krrish 3.

Kamasutra 3D is based on Vatsyayana's famous creation of Kamasutra.

"The Oscar tag has given us an opportunity to address the mainstream Indian audience to release this movie as one of the country's best ever epic stories," the director said.

Set in the backdrop of the ancient India, the film is about the journey of a beautiful princess who sets sail in search of her husband. In her voyage, she undergoes transformations in her body, mind and soul, with a fellow passenger who takes her through the forbidden world of love and sensuality.
