Kannada film star Upendra on a new high

Upendra is excited about his forthcoming flick, Godfather and explains why the film is so special...

Uppi claims that he has put in his best to ensure that Godfather works with the audience. And while he admits that all actors claim their forthcoming films to be ‘different’, his truly is! Talking to DNA in an interview, he discusses the film and his co-stars, Soundarya and Catherine Tresa.

“The film is very dear to me,” begins Upendra, “it’s given me the opportunity to showcase my acting skills; it is true that I was not very enthusiastic about it when producer K Manju discussed it with me. But I am glad I changed my mind. The film has all the ingredients to make it work and the audience will remain in their seats till the end.”

Incidentally, Godfather is a remake of the Tamil film, Varalaaru and director Sriram chose to debut in Sandalwood with its Kannada version. Was it difficult, to work with a new filmmaker, we ask.

“Sriram has tried to follow the original Tamil version faithfully but a few improvisations have been made to suit our local flavour. It’s true that he’s a new director, but has worked like a senior filmmaker with a lot of experience,” explains the actor.

And what about his co-star Soundarya, who also happens to be veteran artiste Jayamala’s daughter? “Soundarya had evinced keen interest during the shooting to hone her acting skills. It is her first film but she never felt nervous during the shooting. Catherine Tresa has also acted well. She too can be an asset to Sandalwood if she continues accepting Kannada films,” adds
Upendra.

There are other ‘firsts’ in Godfather — it’s also the first Kannada film for which AR Rahman has composed music. And with no stones left unturned by K Manju, the production quality is going to be of superior quality, as well. Now it’s for the audience to decide how ‘different’ Godfather really is.
