Part hair wherever you want, pull it into a low ponytail then secure with an elastic band. Then follow any of the following.

STREAK IT: Take a ½ inch colour extension the same length as ponytail and pin it to the band. Wind up hair into a bun and pin again.

KNOT IT OFF-CENTRE: Pull the ponytail to a side, twist it, roll it up and pin. As simple as that!

THE FAN: Split the ponytail into half (a big chunk that is central and a little lot that’s at either end). Wrap the big central half with the elastic band, pin and leave the ends pointing upwards and outwards like a fan. Repeat with the other section but pin it down in opposite direction.

DIVIDE AND RULE: For side-by-side twists, take half of the ponytail and roll it in towards your ears. Secure with pins. Repeat with the other side.

TRESS TIPS:

  • A pulled back tight bun looks good when you have a big forehead or a thin, long neck. Think Audrey Hepburn or Lara Dutta.
  • If you have curly hair, it’s feminine to leave a few wisps to frame your face.
  • Never spray only a part of the bun. Spray it uniformly to avoid different textures.
  • Use interesting hair accessories ranging from fresh flowers (no roses, please!), barrettes and chains to little ghungroos and even brooches.
  • Low buns look equally romantic and elegant when worn with western clothing as well.
  • Never plait your hair before securing it in a bun - always, always leave it in a ponytail.
