Legendary music director Khayyam donates his entire wealth to aid budding artists

The charity trust is called 'Khayyam Jagjeet Kaur'.

To mark the occasion of his 89th birthday, legendary music director Khayyam announced the formation of a charity trust called 'Khayyam Jagjeet Kaur' KPG Charitable Trust. Through the trust, he  plans to donate his entire wealth valued at around Rs 10 crore to support artists and technicians in need in the film industry.

Mohammed Zahur "Khayyam" Hashmi, popularly known as Khayyam, is a well-known music director from the golden era of Hindi film music. In a career spanning over four decades (1953–1990), Khayyam has composed the music for classics like Kabhie Kabhie, Umrao Jaan and Bazaar

The renowned music director has also worked with some of the greatest poets and singers of India. Khayyam has won three Filmfare Awards— Best Music in 1977 for Kabhi Kabhie and in 1982 for Umrao Jaan, and a lifetime achievement award in 2010. He was honoured with the third-highest civilian honour, Padma Bhushan by the Government of India for 2011.

The music composer chose his birthday to make an announcement of the charity trust.
