Young music director Leon James is very excited about the release of his film KO2. The political thriller is the music director’s first film for which he has done the BGM and songs and he can’t wait for it to hit screens.
“I was thrilled with Elred Kumar of R S infotainment offered me KO2. In fact, I have signed two more films with them – Kavalai Vendaam and Veera,” explains Leon. The musician adds that he is now consciously choosing different types of projects so that he can showcase his versatility. “KO2, as you know, is a political thriller while Kavalai Vendaam is a romantic comedy. Veera is a mass film where you will get thara local songs,” he adds.
Leon has sung a few songs for KO2 as well like Kannama and Kohila which have been topping the charts. “It’s interesting that the audio of KO2 released more than six months back and the songs are still doing well. This shows that the audience likes my music and I’m really happy about that,” smiles Leon. The BGM of KO2 has reportedly come out really well and the musician is looking forward to the audience’s reaction to that.
Ask him whether he’s singing as well because other music directors are doing it and he replies, “No! I like singing. Moreover, when you compose a song, you know exactly what you want. And it’s easier to sing it yourself rather than get a singer.”
Recently, Leon performed live for the first time at a city mall. How was that experience? “I loved it! The feeling you get when you perform live is different. Just amazing. The crowd was so responsive. I want to do more live shows but I need to build a repertoire of songs first. Once that happens, I will definitely start doing more live shows,” he says.
He is happy with the way his career is shaping up and is looking forward to the release of his other films as well this year. Leon’s mother has been a pillar of support. Did she catch him performing live? “You’re the only one who asks about my mothers,” he smiles. “She loved it! My mom roots for me and says everything I do is awesome!”
