Rapper Lil Wayne has been released from jail at Rikers Island after serving eight months on a gun possession charge.

In the welcoming committee was his mother, Jacita (Cita) Carter, and Cash Money Records co-CEO, Bryan (Birdman) Williams, who gave an account of Wayne's first moments of freedom.

"We had Ms. Cita, his mama, with us. We let him embrace mama first," the New York Daily News quoted Birdman as telling on the Los Angeles radio show.

After "I love you's" were exchanged, the rapper, also known as Weezy, grabbed some food and hung out with his family and friends at a city hotel.

Wayne greeted his nearly 1 million Twitter followers writing, "aaaaaaahhhhhhmmmmm baaaaakk-kkkkkkkk (sic)."
