Siddharth Basu of Syergy Adlabs said that low TRPs for a television show does not mean low viewership.

MUMBAI: Siddharth Basu of Syergy Adlabs, who will launch Bollywood star Salman Khan on small screen with the game show "Dus Ka Dum", said that low TRPs for a television show does not mean low viewership.

"Television audience has become a fragmented lot in the last few years. Viewership has gone up phenomenally and the dominance of particular shows do not exist any more," Basu said here.

He said TRPs were not neccessarily the absolute standards of judging the popularity or viewership of a show.

Basu said 'Kaun Banega Crorepati' (KBC) in its first season hosted by Amitabh Bachchan had 18 TRPs while the third season hosted by Shah Rukh Khan garnered 12 TRPs.

"These numbers do not mean the viewership for 3rd season was low considering the huge number of television channels which had come in the last six to seven years," he added.

Speaking about Salman, Basu said "Dus Ka Dum" adapted from the hugely successful American multi-million dollar game show "Power of 10" hosted by Drew Carey.

"It is an entertaining and exciting concept. Salman is a charismatic actor with a huge following. He too liked the concept which is funny and light," he added.

The game show goes on air from June six at 2100 hrs and will be telecast every Friday and Saturday.

On the show, a contestant who can most accurately predict how the public would respond to the most intriguing poll questions could walk away with Rs 10 crore. He said the original "Power of ten" reaches out all across America to poll thousands of people ask them just about everything. The contestant which gives the best take on the American mindset walks away with millions.
