Mahesh Manjrekar’s Marathi film to get a new title

The puzzle game company behind the Rubik’s Cube filed a petition in Bombay High Court saying Manjrekar’s film had used its brand name without their knowledge and the company had the exclusive right to the brand name.

Mahesh Manjrekar’s Marathi film Rubik’s Cube, was to release on April 14, but has got entangled in a major copyright issue over its title.

The puzzle game company behind the Rubik’s Cube filed a petition in Bombay High Court saying Manjrekar’s film had used its brand name without their knowledge and the company had the exclusive right to the brand name.

Manjrekar says, “I thought the title would help to promote the game further but the company didn’t want that. They hinted that I could buy the title from them, but we weren’t interested. Right now, we have decided to drop the title Rubik’s Cube and are thinking of alternative titles.”
