Geetanjali and Vikram Kirloskar are bound by their fun-loving and adventurous attitude. Geetanjali recalls how it all began. "We had an arranged marriage. My dad and his dad were friends and both families were very keen that we meet. So we met at a pub. Vikram took my number and kept in touch. Six to eight months later, we decided to marry."
Geetanjali says their idea of romance is totally unconventional. "Both are us are fun-loving people. It's only on Valentine's Day that we get typical. Vikram will make me a meal and give me flowers. Otherwise we go mountain-climbing, trekking, and (doing a) lot of other adventurous stuff."
The young, successful couple enjoys socialising and Geetanjali admits, "It is very natural to have temptations. One would lie if one denied it. Men enjoy diversity and varied options.
"But what is important is that the couple understands and knows where to draw the line. On the other hand, if the relationship is in turmoil, then it is fair that the two move on individual paths."
Geetanjali is proud of her relationship with Vikram and assures us that it is rock-solid. She says, "I think we totally complement each other."
The vice-chairman of Toyota Kirloskar Motors has met his match in Geetanjali. But which of them is the boss? Geetanjali laughs, "When it comes to our daughter's education, I let him take the decisions because I know he is good at it. But I take the lead when it comes to decisions related to people. Again, where investments and electronics are concerned — it's his viewpoint. When we recently did up our Bangalore home, he decided the architecture and I did the interiors."
Although Geetanjali dislikes Vikram's inability to make long-lasting friendships, she is extremely appreciative of his ability to hear a person out without being judgmental. She says, "He believes in the power of an individual. He doesn't infringe on another's freedom."
