What's it about
Aditya (Adhyayan) is a rich kid who has a life threatening heart condition and needs to have a transplant in order to carry on. His mother Gayatri (Deepti Naval) smothers him and wants the surgery to be carried out by her friend Dr Trehan (Om Puri) against her sons wishes who wants Sam (Shekhar) to do the operation. The film touches upon several medical aspects of such a condition and there are some twists and turns that keep the story moving forward. A vehicle for Adhyayan's relaunch the film manages to show the actor in a different light.
What's hot
Shekhar manages to keep your interest alive with the anesthesia track where a patient is suspended in limbo somewhere in the middle when he hasn't been offered enough support to go through the surgery. Once the actual operation starts and we get to see the story from Aditya's perspective there is a curiosity about what will happen next. Ariana Ayam who plays Adhyayan's love interest is pretty and has good chemistry with him. Thankfully the music isn't a letdown and the Mashooqana and Arijit's Main Dhoondne Ko Zamane Mein tracks stand out due to their melody and cinematography.
What's not
Since it's a medical drama the way Shekhar has put together the story seems unconvincing. Also, a lot of time is spent on the love story and the song and dance routine taking away the seriousness of the second half. Adhyayan's character who the film revolves around needed more substance.
There are times when he's a mere bystander observing the events around him. Also once the actual suspense and big mystery is uncovered it feels like you have been cheated and the revelation should have been something bigger.
What to do
A wasted opportunity to make something different than the usual, Heartless doesn't have its heart in the right place!
