Music Review-Fanaa

The successful Hum Tum team returns but not without hitting speed breakers. For starters, the AR Rahman influence is more than evident in the five songs.

The similarities to Rang De Basanti may be coincidental but oh well..Jatin-Lalit have never been famous for their original riffs.

The score starts off marvellously with the near perfect, Chand sifarish, competently sung by Shaan and KK, with the ear-friendly fusion of eclectic Indian instruments a la Rahman. Sunidhi Chauhan and Sonu Nigam are in peak form in Mere hath mein, but it sounds pretty close to  Sanso ko sanso mein from Hum Tum. Prasoon Joshi’s lyrics are above-average but not in the league of his Basanti lyrics.

The Yash Chopra influence is apparent in the Des rangila number marinated in sarson da saag flavour but seems a poor copy of Aisa desh hai mera from Veer-Zaara. All said and heard, the Fanaa music is a bit of a let-down.
