Neena Gupta has married Delhi based Vivek Mehra, a chartered accountant working in a top shot commerce firm on July 15 in a secret marriage.
Neena confirmed the news. “Yes, I have married Vivek. The ceremony was on July 15,” was her short reply to our query.
Earlier, a source close to Neena told After Hrs on condition of anonymity, “Neena has married Vivek. It was a secret marriage. No one except close friends knew about it. They got marries in the US.”
The source even added, “They were very much in love and wanted to tie the knot for a long time. They decided July 15th as the date to get married.”
Neena shot to fame after it was widely publicised that she was having a fiery romance with former West Indies cricketer Sir Vivian Richards with whom she has a daughter Masaba.
A National School of Drama alumnus, Neena has acted in films and television serials. She has also been a director. Neena won the 1994 National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress for Woh Chokri.
She has made appearances in several international films, such as Gandhi (1982), in which she played the niece of the Mahatma Gandhi, and the Merchant Ivory films The Deceivers (1988), In Custody (1993), and Cotton Mary (1999).
Her performance along with Madhuri Dixit, in which she featured in the popular song choli ke peeche in the movie Khalnayak (1993) got her good attention.
Her big break on television came with Khandaan (1985), a (mini) TV series, followed by a role in Shyam Benegal’s Bharat Ek Khoj and later Saat Phere, Chitthi (2003) and Meri Biwi Ka Jawab Nahin (2004).
