The Tamil film, Pizza, directed by debutant Karthik Subbaraj, has been in the news for all the good reasons. The film has been receiving favourable reviews from both critics and audiences across the sub-continent and it was thus only a matter of time before producers from other film industries lined-up to acquire the rights of this film. And from what we hear, the film has already been sold to a Kannada and Telugu producer. Director Prashant Raj of Love Guru fame is the one said to have bought the rights to remake the film in Kannada.
“Yes, that’s true. I loved the film and decided to produce it under my own banner,” says Raj confirming the news. He, however, is yet to decide if he will direct the film as well. “I have to complete Love Guru 2 and Dil Kush before taking on any new project. The remake is likely to go on floors only in January so I have ample time to think about it. While I’m not much for the idea of directing a remake, I would still be open to doing so, just because it’s a genre (suspense thriller) that I am yet to experiment with,” says Raj who is synonymous with rom-coms. It’s just not the genre but a whole new star cast that Raj is considering for the film. The director, who has worked with Tarun in his previous two films, is according to sources, this time, considering Chiranjeevi Sarja to play the lead role.
“Yes, my production house has signed him on. But it’s not decided whether he will be a part of Love Guru 2 or the Pizza remake. As for the leading lady, I am considering launching a fresh face,” adds Raj.
The dialogue will be written by Guruprasad while Joshua Sridhar will compose the music. “Sound is an important component of this film and hence great importance will be given to music. I hope to make the Kannada version better than the original,” adds Raj.
Pizza is a film that centres around a few scary incidents that take place in the lives of a pizza delivery boy and his wife, a horror fiction writer. Vijay Sethupathy and Remya Nambeesan were in the original.
