Prateik Babbar went through a rough patch personally as well as professionally. But now, he has bounced back. He recently became a co-owner of a restaurant in Dharamkot, Himachal Pradesh. But no, he isn’t changing tracks.
“I am very much involved in the process of being an actor. It’s always my first priority. I am getting kind of obsessive with it aaj-kal, and I don’t know if it’s a good thing or a bad thing. But I want to keep working...kaam karte rehna hai. Theatre ho, web series ho, movies ho...I am involved in all the aspects of being an actor.”
Wait and watch
Though the actor is back to work, he is reluctant to reveal his next venture. “I have been signed on for something. Inshallah, I’ll be back on screen very soon. In the mean time, I have been doing a lot of commercials. One with Dhoni came out recently. I am sure things will blossom slowly,” he says.
Masala films vs independent cinema
The actor is pretty clear about what he wants to do. He says, “I want to set a foothold in the commercial Bollywood industry. I haven’t had that yet.” But he is also extremely passionate about independent cinema. “I am going to be honest, my heart lies with movies like Dhobi Ghat and Umrika. Not that I am against Bollywood commercial cinema. I love it. It has its own style and charm, but it’s make believe, on the surface. These (movies like Dhobi Ghat and Umrika) are much deeper. Independent cinema is much deeper. I want to have a foothold in those as well. Because of my parents I think I am compelled to... and andar se bhi ye ichha hai ki ek izzat, naam banau wahan pe bhi.
Right now, I am really excited to get back to work.”
