The lawyer of Rahul Raj Singh, the boyfriend of Pratyusha Banerjee who was booked for abetment to suicide on Tuesday, has quit the case, reports IBN Live.
Neeraj Gupta, Rahul's lawyer said that his client was hiding crucial facts from him in the case.
Rahul was booked by Mumbai police after Pratyusha Banerjee's mother, Shoma, filed a complaint at Gangurnagar Police Station. According to the police, Shoma visited Bangur Nagar police station on Tuesday afternoon and registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Rahul under sections 306 (abetment to suicide), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) and 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
The police also made inquiries with several people, including common and close friends of Pratyusha and Rahul, relatives, neighbours, watchmen of the building and maids. The police also questioned Rahul for two consecutive days after Pratyusha's death.
"We made inquiries with Pratyusha's neighbours and mother. They told us that Rahul would often assault and torture Pratyusha. One of the major reasons for the fights was that he suspected Pratyusha of having an affair with her ex-boyfriend. It is also alleged that around four months ago, he had threatened Pratyusha," said an officer privy to the investigation.
Pratyusha's parents said that Rahul is responsible for the Balika Vadhu actress' death. They are also demanding death penalty or lifetime imprisonment for Rahul. "Until he is punished, my daughter's soul won't rest in peace. We have faith in law and expect justice for our daughter soon," said Shankar Banerjee, Pratyusha's father.
