Model-turned-DJ Donna D’Cruz is just the person who’d make you stop believing in stereotypes - she’s an avid party animal with a deep-rooted interest in spirituality and has rocked the house for some of the hottest celebrities across the world. But Donna, who is slated to perform this Saturday in Jodhpur, thinks that it’s no big deal.

“In fact, I make it a point to carry a statue of Nataraja (the Lord of Dance) to every gig of mine. Also, I end my performance with a namaskar,” quips this Indian-born DJ, who has played at Dolce & Gabbana and Jean Paul Gaultier parties and has a friends’ circle that boasts the likes of Diane Von Furstenberg and Indian spiritual guru Deepak Chopra.

In fact, the latter is a dear friend - she even performed at Deepak’s son Gotham’s wedding. “Deepak and I have collaborated four times — we’ve had Madonna, Demi Moore and Goldie Hawn lend their voices to one CD,” she says, adding that they are also working on a CD titled ‘The Soul of Healing Affirmations’.

“My record label is named as ‘RaSa’. Apart from spirituality driven CDs, we also have lounge music. The idea is to meditate and love life for what it is,” she notes. Donna continues to do modelling assignments, the most recent one being at Roberto Cavalli’s estate in Florence. “I just shot for his latest collection that he has designed for H&M,” she reveals.

However, Donna’s trademark as DJ are the diamond studded headphones. “I absolutely love them. I even design them and in the coming few months I will be showcasing a limited edition range of Swarovski studded ones,” she explains, “I go by the vibe; I empathise with the audience. After all, we all know that the best part about music is that when it hits you, there is no pain,” she signs off.
