The Andaman state government presented actor Rahul Bose with a special award on August 15, felicitating him for the work he’s done for the Andaman and Nicobar Islands through his NGO —The Foundation. Rahul was felicitated at the Lt Governor’s Annual Commendation Awards for Services to the Islands in Port Blair.

The official citation given by them states, “Rahul Bose, a renowned celebrity and philanthropist, personally came down to the islands immediately after the devastating tsunami of December 2004, to provide relief and rehabilitation. After ascertaining the ground situation, he created a coalition of 20 NGOs to form the Solidarity Network and immediately arranged shipment of relief materials. He visited the remote islands as many as 23 times between 2005 and 2007 and donated relief materials in different forms. His own charitable foundation then extended free education to a few children of the islands at premier educational institutions of the country. This award is in recognition of his selfless services, commitment, attachment and affection for the people of these islands.”

Rahul Bose says, “Whether it is my acting, direction, international rugby career or my work in the social sector, I do everything for the sheer love and joy of doing it. However, the awards I have received in all four walks of life have meant the world to me. This one is incredibly special. It shows that after eight years of working in anonymity, the work wasn’t anonymous after all! Will I stop working to try and make the people of the Andaman and  Nicobar islands happier? Absolutely not! It’s a bond for life.”
