Shapely, graceful and beautiful sari-clad women is what Raja Ravi Varma is best remembered for. As a modern tribute to him, a national art movement cum contest called Rang Rasiya, Freedom of Expression is currently being organized. The contest is in association with Ketan Mehta’s upcoming film Rang Rasiya which describes the trajectory of his life and his relationship with women.

Soon to be telecast as a reality show, the contest will invite college students, amateur artists and young professionals from 16 cities across the country to partake in it. Artist Rahul Bhattacharya who is spearheading the initiative says, “Contemporary Indian art is booming, but there is a lack of creative platforms for artists. Most paintings are not sold for the value they are really worth. We need to create consciousness about creativity in the society. We hope to give creativity a boost with this movement.”

The contest is likely to begin at the end of November and will continue till the end of January next year. The various categories that are part of the contest include film, photography, painting, graphic design, dance and theatre. Contestant who wins the contest will be give support to fulfil his dream as an artist with prizes worth Rs 1 crore.
