When they ruled the box-office some years ago, Rani Mukerji and Preity Zinta’s names were almost always taken in the same breath, especially as rivals.

Years after each one is set to strike the screen again, after making sporadic appearances on the big screen, the coincidence of their appearances has not been lost to industry folks.  In fact, the grapevine can’t seem to get enough of the fact that the two actors are all set to take on each other headlong once again.

Rani and Preity shared a pretty fierce rivalry during their hey-day, be it in films clashing at the box-office or in their personal equation — they apparently bonded in a big way during the making of the film Kahin Pyar Na Ho Jaaye before reports of rivalry took over.

Now, it looks like the famous rivalry will be at work again when their films collide in the month of September. Says a source, “Both Preity’s film Ishq in Paris and Rani’s Aiyya are going to release now in September. Initially Preity’s film was supposed to be released in June, but due to some delay in post-production they are releasing it in September, and it is going to clash with Rani’s film now as both are slotted at the end of September.”

The source continues, “Rani and Preity are just like today’s Kareena Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra or Katrina Kaif. They have been rivals before and now, they are all set to revive that. They have fought for the top spot before with their respective films like Chalte Chalte-Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003), Veer Zaara-Hum Tum (2004), and Black-Salaam Namaste (2004) vying for the top spot.”

Preity’s ambitious production venture Ishq in Paris is a hardcore romantic film set with the backdrop of many European destinations. Rani, on the other hand, is set to pay tribute to Bollywood Queen Bees —  Sridevi, Madhuri Dixit-Nene and Juhi Chawla — in Aiyya.

It’s left to be seen who sizzles, and who fizzles in this round of filmi face-off at the box-office?
